She also reflects on the poetry of John Donne; the works of Daniel Defoe, Lawrence Sterne, George Meredith, and Thomas Hardy; Lord Chesterfield’s letters; and Thomas De Quincey’s autobiography. Noteworthy too is the last essay, "How Should One Read a Book?".
